February 14 is Valentine’s Day! Use our love locks as a sign of eternal love and attachment.
More and more couples are using padlocks for declarations of love. Hung on a bridge, the love lock symbolises eternal attachment.
With our love locks, we offer the perfect lock for this romantic custom. In radiant red – the colour of love – and with romantic motifs, your declaration of love will fit perfectly on any bridge railing. Couples can choose from six motifs, a personal engraving with names and/or wedding date can be included on the reverse. Couples who have already hung up a love lock and have now had offspring can set a sign of love for their child with the smaller BabyLocks. The reverse of the lock offers space for an individual engraving, for example with the name and date of birth of your child.
With the myLove padlocks we offer two more love lock variants. They are plastic-coated and can be individually labelled with a waterproof felt-tip pen.
More and more couples are using padlocks for declarations of love. Hung on a bridge, the love lock symbolises eternal attachment. But where does this custom actually come from?
The origin of love locks actually has little to do with the love. As early as the 1950s and 1960s, Italian soldiers attached the locks to bridge railings at the end of their military service, thus sealing the end of their military service.
In the 1990s, this custom was taken up by Italian lovers, and love locks began to appear on bridge railings and lampposts all over the country – well-known examples are the Ponte Vecchio in Florence and the Ponte Milvio in Rome.
From there, the so-called "amorchetti" have become a beautiful and widespread tradition. In Germany too around 30 bridges are already regarded meeting places for lovers. Particularly popular ones: The Hohenzollern Bridge in Cologne, from which it is estimated that more than 200,000 love locks now hang!
