Abbreviation for August Bremicker und Söhne KG

Alarm system

electronic monitoring with acoustic and visual alarm, alternatively silent alarm via telephone

Drill protection

Protection and inhibition of the door cylinder by hard metal pins against drilling out

Presence protection

special products such as door deadlocks in combination with a door guard against unauthorised entry

Prying open

most common break-in method in Germany by means of a screwdriver for windows/French doors

Clearance rate

Proportion of break-ins solved, in Germany approx. 18 percent

Automatic lock

self-locking lock, e.g. with window security locks ABUS FTS 99.

Clamping unit with self-locking mechanism

Outdoor siren

acoustic and optical alarm transmitter for alarm systems

Coating of the shackle, e.g. on padlocks against the most brutal attacks (bolt cutters)

A code card is used to identify a key

Double casement window security lock

special security for double casement windows with middle bar, e.g. ABUS DFS 95

Double ball locking

special protective measure for U-shackle locks against twisting and pulling out of the shackle on both shackle sides

Backset

Distance measurement for door mortice locks. The backset is determined by the front edge of the mortice lock to the centre of the follower or keyhole

Push button cylinder

Locking by pressing the cylinder, e.g. with lockable window handles

Straight-through fitting

special fastening according to DIN 18104-1 for unstable walls or stones from the inside to the outside

Mortice lock

recessed lock for doors. Basic lock to accommodate door handles and cylinders. Different variants for door cylinders (PZ), bath and warded (BB)

Ice spray

Override method for U-locks. Look for ice spray tested products!

EMA

Abbreviation for intrusion alarm systems. This includes all types of alarm systems

Distance measure

denotes the distance from the centre of the profile cylinder to the centre of the door knob. In Germany, 72 mm for corridor doors and 92 mm for front doors

Installer

Installation companies with special technical training

Shock sensor

Component from intrusion alarm technology, registers massive vibrations, e.g. in glass

F

Latch

designates a part of the mortice lock that engages the striking plate when the door is closed

Rebate

Designation on doors and windows for the area that is offset on the door leaf or window wing

Rebate space

Gap between frame and sash on doors and windows

Window hinge security lock

designates the additional protection of the hinge side of a window against prying open

Window wing

movable part of the window. Usually with turn-tilt function

Hollow crossbar

Cylinder guard

special cylinder cover for escutcheon plates and door fittings. Protects the profile cylinder from violent attacks

Knob cylinder

Door cylinder with internal turning knob. Locking from inside without key. Not for doors with glass inserts!

Test method, simulation of a bolt cutter

Contact transmitter

Component from the intrusion alarm technology, transmitting unit with message to the alarm panel

Spare key means the copy of a key

Olive is the technical term for window handle

External security of the door cylinder for additional locks, e.g. reinforced door bar lock

Security door bars

effective protective measure for doors. Both the opening and hinge sides of the door are heavily protected. Reinforced door bars have a high deterrent effect. Models are available for front doors as well as basement doors

Paracentric

special key profile in which the keyway is off-centre rather than centred

Picking

designates the "intelligent opening" of locking mechanisms with special tools

Mushroom head pin

Locking elements for security windows

Plus cylinder

special disc cylinders against "picking". Mainly used for high-quality two-wheel locks and padlocks

Police crime statistics

annual survey of all criminal offences in Germany

Profile cylinder

Operating element of the door, usually with key (see also door cylinder)

Crossbar

Also called a reinforced door bar lock. Effective protective measure for doors. Both the opening and hinge sides of the door are heavily protected. Crossbars have a high deterrent effect. Models are available for front doors as well as basement doors

Hinge side

the side of a window or door to which it is attached by means of hinges

Security hinge lock

Hinge security for windows and/or doors

Disc cylinder

high-quality lock cylinder, especially against picking

Shear bolt

serves to stabilise the lock case on the window frame for special fuses

Layered construction

Several layers give the highest possible protection for certain products, e.g. door fittings

Sliding door lock

Security measure against pushing away and lifting of sliding doors, e.g. ABUS FTS 96/106

Impact test

Test method, simulation of a heavy hammer

Locking system

Allocation and organisation of different access authorisations for door cylinders

Strike plate

The strike plate is the element for holding the latch and bolt of the mortice lock

Lock case

the lock case usually holds the bolts of the lock

Locking side

Closing side, used to hold locking elements, e.g. mortice locks

Closures

Cylinders have different numbers of closures, more details are regulated by standards, e.g. DIN

Lock case

Main lock, counterpart of the lock case

Lock nut

serves to accommodate the door handle square for mortice locks

Keyhole cover

Protection against the ingress of dirt into the locking mechanism
